American Canvas, the title of the exhibition, comes from a 1997 National Endowment for the Arts publication of the same name.

Ian Dolton-Thornton is an artist working in Oakland, California. His work has been presented at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Important Projects, SHED Projects, Interstate Projects, and published in Notes: On Administration, Open Space and Art21 Magazine. He is the director of Publication Studio Oakland, an artist's book press that prints and binds books on-demand.
